SIMS & FMS Support

The management information system (MIS) used in schools is crucial to the effective running of back office processes including the managing and monitoring of pupil/student achievement and behaviour. 

The SIMS & FMS Support service provides support, advice, guidance and consultancy in everything related to the SIMS and FMS Systems.

Services Included

Support and guidance on:

  • School Census

  • End of Financial Year in FMS
  • Update Files provide for
    • Salary Download information (direct from City Council’s payroll system).
    • Personnel update files for Pay Awards, Superannuation, NI (Only if Coventry City Council Service Terms/Salary Scales are used)
  • Telephone and remote support
  • Site Visits where necessary (additional charges may apply)
  • Training courses within the training schedule at a central training venue.
  • SIMS .net and FMS upgrades and patches as necessary via SOLUS 3

SIMS Training

Training courses will be arranged to agreed service priorities and published to establishments via our website (http://www.coventry.gov.uk/schoolsict ). We will maintain a waiting list for courses which are oversubscribed.

  • 30 hours of training at a central venue
  • Access to our online training portal (no additional charge, does not count towards the inclusive 30 hours)
  • Access to online webinars (no additional charge, does not count towards the inclusive 30 hours)

Some content may be provided for an addtional charge, but this will be notified to schools as relevant.

SIMS License and Annual Maintenance for Maintained Schools

Using its buying power, Coventry City Council have negotiated a licence for SIMS products for all maintained schools. This licence offers savings compared to purchasing the licence direct from Capita. Unfortunatly due to Capita's rules, this licence is only available to maintained schools. Academy/Free schools must licence direct with Capita SIMS.

Please note that academy and free schools are not maintained by Coventry City Council, they are unable to use SIMS under Coventry City Council's licence agreement and they must licence directly with Capita SIMS.

Key Exclusions

The following items are excluded from the SIMS Support agreement:-

  • Attendance Code advice
  • Cashless catering systems
  • Schools to School Website as support is provided by the department for Education.
  • School Database Merges – this is available but is chargeable.
  • Server Migration – this may be chargeable please contact us for details on your specific situation
  • Entering and updating school data – this is the responsibility of the school
  • Setup and consultancy for new modules is available but at an additional charge
  • OMR readers are not supported
  • Catholic School Census - this is supported by the catholic education service
  • System Manager 7 - user defined groups, we do not recommend the use of user defined groups for SIMS Permissions
  • Any module or package not specifically included above is fully excluded.

SIMS FMS

  • Transmission of BACs files to receiving bank – except where a network or software issue is preventing transmission.
  • Creation of specific BCR Reports – this is a chargeable service
  • Equipment Register – import of data from text files – advice will be given but carrying out this process is chargeable.
  • Equipment Register inventory inspections.
  • The following is not provided as part of this agreement but may be available from your schools finance officer.
  • Advice of a financial nature
  • Chart of accounts advice 
  • Budget planning advice 
  • BCR Report content

Duration of Service

This service runs from 1st April to 31st March in each given SLA year. However, we may be able to offer other periods depending on your requirements, please contact us on either ictschoolreply@coventry.gov.uk or on 024 7678 6620 to discuss.
